The Maco drive gears were commonely made by GU and were stamped with the Maco logo we have found that in a number of situations the Maco drive gear can replace the GU one as the interlocking teeth are very similar but will always be dependant on the corner gears that the original fabricator used .
The drive gears were often fitted with a "sash lifter device" or "rocker" which when the opener closed hits onto a round cam striker and lifts the opener up vertically so that the gearing round the window is always in the right place vertically to ensure a smoother operation when turning the handle etc.
This device also stops the handle been operated when the window is open to help prevent any trapped fingers or putting the opener into the tilt position inadvertently.
You may find that the existing window does not have this device fitted (as some fabricators did not like to use it) If the new one has the device (dependant on suppliers stocks whether this is fitted or not) you can remove it with a flat screwdriver by forcing it between the lifter and the faceplate and twisting it out and away with some force.
